I’m A Celebrity 2016: Campmates split into two teams ahead of terrifying first task

This year’s I’m A Celebrity campmates were divided into two rival teams ahead of their first terrifying pre-jungle challenge.

Hosts Ant and Dec reportedly met with half of the celebrity contestants on Thursday to present the first task, which involved a plank, a 32-storey building and some serious courage.

Reports suggest Carol Vorderman, Adam Thomas, Joel Dommett, Jordan Banjo and Ola Jordan competed to earn themselves another night in luxury as opposed to heading straight into the jungle.

Hooked up to a harness, each celebrity attempted to walk across a 10m long metal frame, with precariously placed gaps in it, on top of the Focus Tower in Surfers’ Paradise on Australia’s Gold Coast.

As if that wasn’t enough, when each member of the team successfully reached the end of the platform, they were then asked to turn 180 degrees and walk back across to the starting point. Eek - we’re cringing already!

An eyewitness told The Sun: “Carol looked like she was hating every second of it. The frame was shaking underneath her due to the wind and her trembling. She took a long time to complete the task and looked delighted when she did.”

Meanwhile ex Skins actor Joel Dommett, who braved the local winds in a casual t-shirt and shorts combo, received encouragement from his teammates during the high-rise mission.

The source added: “Joel looked like he was going to bottle it. The whole team, and Ant and Dec, were cheering him on and shouting encouragement from the sidelines. He was bricking it and was shaking a lot.”

Elsewhere, the remaining five celebrities – Larry Lamb, Lisa Snowdon, Scarlett Moffatt, Wayne Bridge and Sam Quek – were carrying out a separate, but equally nail-biting, challenge.

Viewers will find out how the tasks unfold when I’m A Celebrity launches on ITV this Sunday – we can’t wait.
