Steve Kerr recounts drama from his playing days: 'I kicked MJ's ass'

Steve Kerr knows how to diffuse.

Drama hit reached peak Draymond Green levels on Tuesday after sources told Yahoo Sports’ Chris Haynes that the Golden State Warriors forward called superstar teammate Kevin Durant a bitch.

Conflict carries over from court

The conflict stemmed from Monday night’s game when Green turned the ball over in the final seconds of regulation of an overtime loss to the Los Angeles Clippers instead of giving the ball to Durant, the team’s designated closer with Stephen Curry sidelined.

It led to an on-court spat that trickled into the locker room after Green reportedly confronted Durant over his impending free agency.

It all led to Green being suspended for Tuesday’s game against the Atlanta Hawks.

Kerr brings up his own fight with superstar

It of course led to plenty of questions for Kerr, who dove into his own history of butting heads with a superstar. The Warriors head coach famously suffered a black eye after ending up on the wrong end of a punch from Michael Jordan during his days as a player with the Chicago Bulls.

“When you play at a really high level and you’re competitive, things happen,” Kerr said. “Every team I’ve been on, things have happened.

“By the way, I kicked MJ’s ass.”

Kerr’s statement drew some chuckles and made a salient point as well. The Warriors are a competitive team loaded with star talent, and conflicts like these do seem inevitable.

And while this situation has the potential to simmer, odds are Warriors players will be laughing about it sooner than later while continuing to rack up wins.
