4 Pussy Riot protesters at World Cup final sentenced to 15 days in Russian jail

The four protesters who ran onto the field at the World Cup final in Moscow on Sunday were sentenced to 15 days in jail, according to the Associated Press.

A court in Russia officially found them guilty of “violating the law on behavior of sports events spectators.” They have also been banned from attending sporting events in Russia for three years.

The four protesters, dressed like police, burst onto the field during the second half of France’s win over Croatia, and play was momentarily stopped while security grabbed them and escorted them off the field.

The Russian protest group Pussy Riot claimed responsibility for the display. The anti-Putin group released a statement on Twitter shortly after the display that included a list of demands like the release of political prisoners, allowing more open political competition in Russia and more.

France cruised to a 4-2 win over Croatia in the final on Sunday, winning its second ever World Cup title.
