Chrissy Teigen offers to pay $100k fine to get Larry Nassar victim McKayla Maroney out of her NDA

Chrissy Teigen has led celebrity offers to pay a $100,000 fine that is stopping former Olympian McKayla Maroney from giving a statement against USA Gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar, who she has accused of abusing her.

Over 140 women have come forward to accuse Nassar of sexual misconduct, with 88 expected to give victim impact statements in court this week.

Nassar has already been sentenced to 60 years in prison on child pornography charges.

Maroney has alleged that she suffered sexual abuse and “years of psychological trauma” at the hands of Nassar, reaching a settlement with USA Gymnastics in December 2016, with it reported that the terms of the settlement included a $100,000 fine if Maroney spoke publicly about her allegations.

Seeing Maroney’s plight, model Chrissy took to Twitter to reveal that she is willing to pay the NDA fine on Maroney’s behalf.

Sharing a screenshot of a newspaper headline that read: “McKayla Maroney faces $100k fine if she speaks at Larry Nassar sentencing after USA Gymnastics made her sign an NDA ordering her to stay quiet abuse abuse as part of her $1.25M settlement”, Chrissy added: “The entire principle of this should be fought – an NDA to stay quiet about this serial monster with over 140 accusers, but I would be absolutely honored to pay this fine for you, McKayla.”

The offer seemingly struck a chord with Chrissy’s fellow celebrities, with TV producer Michael Schur retweeting Chrissy’s message and adding: “I’ll split it with you”.

Actresses Kristen Bell and Susan Sarandon followed suit, also tweeting that they will contribute towards the fine.

Maroney is now suing USA Gymnastics, with her legal team arguing that it is illegal to sign a clause that demands silence.

The 22-year-old star has claimed that Nassar began to abuse her at a US national team training camp in Houston at the age of 13, she previously said: “Dr. Nassar told me that I was receiving ‘medically necessary treatment’ that he had been performing on patients for over 30 years.

“It seemed whenever and wherever this man could find the chance, I was ‘treated.’ It happened in London before my team and I won the gold medal, and It happened before I won my silver.”

Fellow Olympic gymnast Simone Biles also revealed this week that she was one of Nassar’s victims, sharing in a statement on Twitter: “I, too, am one of the many survivors that was sexually abused by Larry Nassar.

“There are many reasons that I have been reluctant to share my story, but I know now that it is not my fault.”

Nassar will be sentenced this week, with women due to give testimonies of the abuse that they suffered at his hands.
