I'm A Celeb: Amir Khan provided with Halal meals in line with his Muslim faith - but he still has to eat bugs

It has been revealed that boxer Amir Khan is being provided with special halal food options during his time on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, keeping in line with his Muslim faith.

However, unfortunately for the star he still has to eat bugs and critters.

The person who is looking after Amir’s Twitter page whilst he is in the Australian jungle made the revelation when a fan asked how Amir is surviving considering the meat campmates are provided with is haram.

They asked: “Forever wondering what @amirkingkhan does when there’s all that haram meat around?”

Amir’s Twitter account replied: “Amir is provided with a Halal option whenever the camp win food. #TeamAK”.

It has since been reported that Amir only agreed to sign up to the ITV reality show after he learned that eating bugs for the gruesome Bushtucker Trials is not against his faith.

The Daily Mail claim that Amir feared that he wouldn’t be able to take part in the trials due to the insects being viewed as haram under Islamic laws, however, he then discovered that the Quran does not outlaw the consumption of creepy crawlies.

The only thing that Amir musn’t eat is a scorpion, which is banned in a similar way to pork as an “unclean food”.

A Muslim scholar wrote online: “There is no evidence in the Quran or Hadith at all where most insects (except scorpions) are called unclean.

“Therefore, insects are halal and you can eat them if you want without committing a sin.”

Earlier this week, Amir’s stint in I’m A Celeb hit the headlines when he enquired whether a woman could ever be Prime Minister.

The star’s bemused campmates were forced to explain to him that the current PM is a woman, Theresa May, with the soon-to-be father-of-two facing backlash for his ignorance online.

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! continues tonight at 9pm on ITV.
