George Shelley pays emotional tribute to his late sister on her birthday

George Shelley has taken to social media to pay tribute to his late sister Harriet as he and his family celebrated their first Christmas since her tragic death earlier this year.

The midwifery student also would have turned 22 earlier this week, with Harriet being born on Christmas Day.

Former Union J star George admitted that he originally wasn’t going to publicly post on the poignant day, but couldn’t resist sharing how “beautiful” his sister was with the world when he came across a photo of her.

Posting the image to his popular Instagram page, George wrote: “I wasn’t going to post, but I just came across this picture… everyone needs to know how beautiful my little sister was.

“Every ounce of her body was pure gold and anyone to have been graced with her angelic energy was in love at first sight and very honoured.

“This last year has been toughest year of our lives, and although it was both Christmas and Harri’s birthday yesterday, we managed to get through soaked in love (and tears), but still with smiles on our faces. Your smile.

“You live on though us, through me, and your being has inspired so many people to become the person you would be proud of, including me.

“To say this year has changed me is an understatement. You’re helping me through it, I feel it. Through the pain, and through the darkness.

“I’m going make it all worth something. I promise.”

Harriet passed away in May after she was struck as she stepped out from behind Stormzy’s tour bus outside of the O2 venue in Bristol, suffering serious head injuries.

At the time, George penned an emotional song in Harriet’s memory, which he performed at her funeral on May 24.

He regularly posts about his sister on his social media pages, previously praising Harriet after her donor heart saved somebody else’s life.

In September, an inquest heard that five people, including a baby, received organ donations from Harriet following her death.
