Harry Styles surprises fans with 'Kiwi' music video featuring children, puppies and cake

When Harry Styles released his debut solo album earlier this year, quirky rock anthem ‘Kiwi’ was immediately the fan favourite, with the One Direction star even being pressured into performing the track more than once on his tour as it drove concertgoers so crazy.

Unsurprisingly, Harry opted to release ‘Kiwi’ as a single, teasing his new music video over the last few days before dropping it this afternoon and, well, let’s just say that it isn’t what anybody expected.

With ‘Kiwi’ arguably being the grittiest song on his album, featuring references to cheap cigarettes, hard liquor, and, seemingly, cocaine, as well as the rousing chorus: “I’m having your baby”, fans were initially expecting a suitably gritty accompanying video.

Last week, Harry posted an Instagram photo of himself alongside a host of well-dressed schoolchildren with “Kiwi” repeated in the caption, hinting that all won’t be as expected when the video finally drops – and he couldn’t have been more right.

Taking place in a school, ‘Kiwi”s video sees the group of children – all dressed in rather dapper suits – embroiled in a cake fight in a school hall, with close-ups of baked goods being intertwined with the kids’ “game faces” as they prepare for battle.

Harry doesn’t make an appearance until halfway through the song, where he walks in on the fight in one of his famous silk suits, accompanied by… A host of puppies.

Puppies, cakes and children? A recipe for perfection.

As the dogs quickly start to eat all of the cakes, Harry joins the children in their epic battle, which appears to be a subtle reference to his critically acclaimed role in Christopher Nolan’s war epic ‘Dunkirk’ as well as, perhaps, his previous job as a baker, aged 16.

The video ends with all of the children and Harry lining up, covered in cake – with the 23-year-old singer smirking just before the screen goes black.

Needless to say, fans went wild for the video and took to Twitter to share their reaction:

One thing’s for sure, Harry is far from predictable.
