Connecticut man said he had sex with dead girlfriend in efforts to wake her up

A Connecticut man said in court this week that he had sex with his dead girlfriend in efforts to wake her up.

Aaron Graser was sentenced to a year in prison on Tuesday after pleading guilty to fourth-degree sexual assault of his girlfriend's corpse, the Hartford Courant reported.

Graser's girlfriend was found dead by police back in January, surrounded by heroin and needles in the apartment she and Graser shared, according to the local outlet.

Graser told local police his girlfriend was unresponsive when he found her sitting with heroin and drug paraphernalia in her lap. So he reportedly decided to have sex with her to wake her up because she didn't enjoy sleeping with him.

“Aaron stated that he laid the victim down the bed and he rubbed her sternum,” a warrant for Graser's arrest reportedly read. “Aaron stated he listened to see if the victim was breathing and he heard gurgling. Aaron stated he knew the victim hated having sex with him so he figured that the victim might wake up if he had sex with her.”

The 39-year-old also admitted to tying his girlfriend's ankles and wrists to their bedposts “because it was a fetish of his.”

After finishing, Graser claimed he untied and redressed her, and then enlisted the help of his neighbor, who used to be a paramedic. His neighbor later told police she believed Graser's girlfriend had been dead for several hours.

Later an autopsy determined the woman was dead when Graser began the act.

Initially, Graser was charged with second-degree assault, but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge.

Graser was also spared from the sex offender registry after the judge determined it wasn't necessary for public safety “based upon the facts” of the case.
