Davina McCall asks for 'space and respect' as she confirms split from husband of 17 years

Davina McCall has confirmed that she has separated from her husband of 17 years, Matthew Robertson, requesting “space and privacy” in a heartfelt statement.

The 50-year-old TV presenter said that her and Matthew’s children, 16-year-old Holly, 14-year-old Tilly, and 11-year-old Chester are the estranged couple’s priority.

Speaking in a statement, Davina shared: “I am very sad to say that Matthew and I have separated.

“Our amazing children are our number one priority, above everything else so therefore we ask for as much space and respect from the media as possible while our family goes through this difficult time.”

A source added to The Sun that Davina has been left “devastated” by the break-up, explaining: “This is a devastating time for Davina. She has been very open about how hard she has worked to save the marriage for so many years but eventually the time comes when you have to accept it’s not going to work.

“They’re at that stage now and their primary concern is for the well-being of their kids who they adore more than anything else in the world.”

The shock split comes just two years after Davina and 48-year-old Matthew renewed their wedding vows, with the star saying at the time: “I’m very lucky, because as far as I know I’ve married a really faithful guy.

“When I think of Matthew and me in our 70s I see us on a world cruise with entertainment every night!”

The reason for Davina and Matthew’s split is currently unknown but earlier this week Davina posted a poignant quote about making mistakes to her Instagram page, which read: “Every morning we get a chance to be different. A chance to change. A chance to be better. Your past is your past. Leave it there. Get on with the future part.”

Davina captioned the message with: “I really know about this one. I have made so many mistakes in my life. But there is always a new day.”
