Bedbug Armageddon — Video Shows Infestation at New York Hotel

Many dream of vacationing in New York City, but things quickly turned into a nightmare for one California couple.

Elgin Ozlen and his girlfriend checked into Astor on the Park Hotel New York on the Upper West Side of Manhattan expecting an elegant stay. Instead, Ozlen captured a bedbug infestation on camera that is guaranteed to make you itch.

Ozlen posted the video on YouTube on Jan. 1, and it has already racked up more than 950,000 views. In the clip, Ozlen describes how he and his girlfriend were moved to three rooms in just two nights because of issues with the facilities. The heater didn’t work in the first room, and the second room had no power.

But the third room beat them all.

In addition to faulty outlets and a broken heater, room 509 was completely infested with bedbugs.

After spending a night on the mattress, Ozlen awoke to find his girlfriend’s arms, sides, and stomach covered in a rash. He assumed it came from outside, but when they lifted up the mattress, they discovered dozens of bedbugs.

“There’s two clumped together there, one there, one there, about three right there,” Ozlen counts. “I don’t have time to show you them all.”

After examining the mattress, Ozlen then pans the camera to show his girlfriend’s arms and stomach, which are covered with a red rash.

“We were expecting a vacation to remember the rest of our lives, and we will definitely remember it for the rest of our lives, but it won’t be a pleasant memory,” Ozlen told WABC.

According to Ozlen, Astor on the Park was apologetic and gave him a full refund.
