Herschel Walker’s nephew, a top tight end recruit, says no to Georgia

There might not be another player in college football history more revered and more synonymous with his school than Herschel Walker is at Georgia.

Maybe a case can be made for Tim Tebow at Florida, Doug Flutie at Boston College, Robert Griffin III at Baylor or a similar legendary player, but let's agree that when we think about Herschel Walker, we think about Georgia (or, perhaps, a NFL history-altering trade made by the Vikings and Cowboys ... or maybe the New Jersey Generals).

So when Walker's nephew, from Savannah, Ga., became a top-10 tight end recruit in the high school class of 2014, it was a slam dunk where he was headed to college, right? Oh, not to mention that the young man's parents were both All-American track athletes at Georgia.

Not so fast.

ESPN.com reported that Milan Richard, Walker's nephew and four-star tight end recruit, has narrowed his choices down to Clemson, South Carolina, Ole Miss or Vanderbilt, not the school that Uncle Herschel won the 1982 Heisman Trophy for. Richard's parents, Bill and Veronica Richard, were track stars at Georgia.

Georgia has a top tight end recruit already, which is a reason for Richard to look elsewhere. Jeb Blazevich, the No. 4 tight end in the class according to Rivals' rankings, has verbally committed to the Bulldogs. If Richard becomes a star for one of those SEC rivals, there will be plenty of second guessing over not landing an easy legacy recruit.

Ultimately it might be better for Richard to go to a school where he's not going to be best known for his uncle's football career, and he sounded like a young man who was considering a lot of important factors when picking his school:

"I haven't ruled anyone out," Richard said in April, according to TigerIllustrated.com. "I have a lot of good offers and I appreciate everyone who has offered me.

"Just where ever I feel comfortable is the biggest deciding factor. Where ever I go and I feel like I fall in love with the coaches and the people there. Also academics. Academics are a huge part of this for me to."
