Arkansas prep star Dalvin Kimble brings down backboard on huge slam
To this point in his high school athletic career, Earle (Ark.) High junior Dalvin Kimble has been known for his talent on the football field, leading the Earle Bulldogs to an 11-1 record and a deep playoff run as a two-way star at quarterback and defensive back. The three-year starter was even selected as an all-state tournament quarterback this fall.
Yet the sport Kimble is associated with may be about to change, thanks to the dramatic slam you see below.
That Kimble would throw down a powerful dunk in the open court on a fast break is no surprise. After all, the football star stands 6-foot-3 and weighs in at 165 pounds of sheer muscle. Still, the explosiveness with which he ripped at the rim and brought down the backboard in Earle's game against Rivercrest (Ark.) High was pretty awe inspiring.
In fact, because Kimble brought down the backboard, the Earle-Rivercrest game had to be suspended as it stood at the time when the glass came shattering down, with Earle leading 6-4. The game was delayed for weeks until it was finally resumed with the exact same amount of time on the clock and the same score, with Earle eventually earning a 75-66 victory. The Bulldogs earned a season sweep of Rivercrest four days later with a more one-sided 61-44 win.
And Earle's hardcourt success is proving that Kimble might have his choice of athletic futures in college, too. The Bulldogs are 16-2 so far in the 2011-12 season, with Kimble playing a key role as a talented swingman for his hometown squad.
It seems unlikely that Kimble would be able to earn all-state honors for basketball, as he did football, but it may not be beyond question. After all, it's not every day you see a smooth dribbling guard who is strong enough to rip down the backboard on a breakaway jam.
