Best and Worst 2011 Fashion

By Julia Malacoff, REDBOOK

From our favorite new wardrobe staples (Hello, bright denim!) to the trends we can't wait to kiss goodbye forever (Drop crotch pants, anyone?), we look back on the sartorial statements from the past year.

1. Best Dress Trend: Mad Men Style

The resurgence of the fit n' flare silhouette is one that we're delighted about. It's one of the most universally flattering dresses ever created, and we were glad to see this trend resurface.

2. Worst Dress Trend: Too Tight, Too Short

Wearing clothes that are too small is the ultimate fashion no-no, but this year we saw tons of celebrities sporting dresses that were just too tight and too short. There's nothing wrong with showing off your assets, but ladies, please do it tastefully.

3. Best Denim Trend: Primary Colors

We've fallen in love with this trend. Wearing bright denim is one of the easiest ways to get color into your wardrobe.

4. Worst Denim Trend

Jeggings are almost universally unflattering (unless you're a toothpick), so we're more than ready to say goodbye to them. Once the Pajama Jean arrived, we knew it had gone too far.

5. Best Print Trend: Natural Animal Print

From bold shoes and bags to sweaters, skirts and even jeans, we are totally digging the natural animal print trend. One (or several!) of these items easily adds a bit of interest to an otherwise basic outfit.

6. Worst Print Trend: Day-Glo Animal Print

Neon is best done simply; adding an animal print is just too much trend at once.

7. Best Forgiving Silhouette Trend: Silky Button Down Shirts

Great for the office with a pencil skirt, for the weekend with jeans, and for a night out with a mini; this could easily be the most versatile trend of the year.

8. Worst Forgiving Silhouette Trend: Drop Crotch Pants

These pants might give you plenty of breathing room, but they're not a particularly attractive. Skip the drop crotch and go for some silky printed pants instead. Same effect, less heinousness.

9. Best Accessory Trend: Oxfords/Brogues

Menswear for women is here to stay, and that's just how we like it. How could we not embrace a trend that includes comfortable, flat and office appropriate shoes?

10. Worst Accessory Trend: Excessively Embellished Handbags

Studs, fringe, sequins: Pick one, but not all please.
