Legendary Indiana hoops coach resigns after disturbing indecent exposure charge

A legendary high school basketball coach in Indiana has resigned in disgrace after he was found half naked with a 17-year-old student in his car near a public park.

As reported by the Indianapolis Star and a handful of other Indiana news outlets, longtime Martinsville (Ind.) High boys basketball coach Timothy Wolf resigned after he was charged with public indecency on Monday, a charge made in conjunction with an incident in which he was found with his pants unzipped and his genitalia exposed in his car at Eagle Creek Park accompanied by a 17-year-old girl.

According to court documents, the passenger in the car was still fully clothed when the pair was discovered by a police officer, and Wolf was charged with public indecency the next morning, and he offered up his resignation from his post at Martinsville High shortly thereafter.

Wolf led the Martinsville program for 25 years and has served as a basketball coach in Indiana for 37 years, an exceptionally long tenure in the modern era of results-focused prep sports. He was recently honored for earning his 300th win at Martinsville High.

As one might expect, parents of students at the school and other community members have overwhelmingly spoken up in support of the coach's departure in the wake of such a troubling scandal, even if some have sounded a note of caution about how the coach's departure may affect the students he dealt with on a day-to-day basis.

"I think it's going to devastate a lot of the kids and parents who trusted him," Martinsville resident Debbie Connor told Indianapolis NBC affiliate WAVE "He was supposed to be a mentor. It's horrible."

Added Martinsville High parent Misty Ward to Indianapolis Fox affiliate WXIN:

"It just protects other young girls around here and I don't think he should be allowed around here, back in any school. Not only this one, but any school."
