Liam Hemsworth, who you probably know best as the guy beside Miley Cyrus in paparazzi pictures, is soon to become a star in his own right once "The Hunger Games" film, based on the massively popular series of books, hits theaters March 23. The Aussie actor, who's been Cyrus' on-again, off-again boyfriend since they met while filming 2010's "The Last Song," plays Gale in the high-profile flick, the best friend of Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence), the main character who volunteers to take her little sister's place in an annual fight-to-the-death between children.

While the 22-year-old's future looks bright now, he reveals in the new issue of Details magazine that that wasn't always the case. He remembers when -- just before he was cast in "The Last Song" -- that it looked like his older brother Chris ("Thor") had outshone him in Hollywood. "I was sitting at our manager's house with Chris. He booked 'Red Dawn' and 'Thor' in the same week," Liam tells the men's mag. "We were celebrating for him. But then it was like, 'Yeah, I'm probably going to have to go home in a week.' But I didn't want to! I love this town."

5 Foods That'll Make You Look Younger

Just in the nick of time, Liam got the gig -- and a relationship with former "Hannah Montana" star Miley as a bonus. The latter was something he never expected, especially since he and his brother laughed about how odd it was for Liam to see the former child star at the audition! "She makes me really happy," he notes. "When you start, you want to be professional, but when you're filming those scenes with someone and pretending to love them, you're not human if you don't feel something."

Besides Miley, Liam also developed an affinity for some American restaurants. He discovered he was a big fan of both Cracker Barrel and Krispy Kreme (where he buys doughnuts two dozen at a time), but not so much of a certain fast food chain. "In Australia, we always used to watch 'Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle.' The movie was better than the burgers ... we might have thrown up after," he confesses.

The actor, who's also nabbed a role in "The Expendables 2" with Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger, manages to keep off the extra pounds despite his indulgences thanks to his regular workouts. "I love boxing," Liam declares. "If I am doing it consistently I feel physically strong and mentally strong. It keeps me in a good place."
