Podcast: Andrew Luck’s father, Oliver, discusses the Dynamo as well as his son’s future in the NFL

Andrew Luck has plenty on his mind as the NFL draft approaches, but the player many expect to be American football's next big star took time out for a different pursuit this week.

Luck, a quarterback from Stanford expected to be drafted No. 1 by the Indianapolis Colts, spent Wednesday indulging in his love of soccer, watching on television as the United States sprung a huge upset by beating Italy 1-0. Luck’s passion for soccer was revealed by his father Oliver during this week’s Yahoo! Soccer Podcast, in conjunction with World Football Daily.

The host, yours truly, interviewed Oliver Luck about a variety of topics including the whirlwind of attention focused on his son. For his part, Oliver has been heavily involved in the recent development of soccer in the United States.

As CEO and general manager of the Houston Dynamo from 2006 to 2010, he helped the club win two MLS Cup titles and helped formulate plans for the team’s new soccer-specific stadium.

Later in the show, I was joined by ESPN’s Allen Hopkins to review the details of the USA’s win over Italy, in particular the performance of goal-scorer and match-winner Clint Dempsey.

Finally, World Football Daily co-host Sophie Nicolaou and I played our weekly game of Premier Predictions, looking ahead to the weekend action.
