The CutlineYahoo News hires Steve Chaggaris as executive producer, elections
In the latest move to bolster Yahoo's original coverage of the 2012 presidential election, Yahoo News has hired Steve Chaggaris, the former Political Director of CBS News, as Executive Producer, Elections. Chaggaris will start on January 3, 2012. He'll be based in Washington, D.C. and will report to David Chalian, Washington Bureau Chief for Yahoo News.
"With talent like Steve Chaggaris, we're fast making Yahoo News a must-read for the latest political coverage and analysis," said Robertson Barrett, VP of Yahoo News. "Having notable U.S. political voices, like Steve, is powering our 2012 election team to flood the zone with original reporting in key primary states like Iowa and New Hampshire; score newsmaking interviews with all the major GOP contenders; and examine the issues crucial to voters in 2012, from immigration to the economy to income inequality."
In his new role at Yahoo, Chaggaris will be charged with overseeing and coordinating the production of coverage around major election year events, including major primaries, the Republican and Democratic conventions, and, of course, election night.

"I'm excited to have the opportunity to help Yahoo cover politics and the 2012 election in a way that's unique, impactful and that will speak directly to voters."
As political director for CBS News, Chaggaris oversaw the CBS News Political Unit, and contributed on-air political analysis to CBS News and CBS Radio News, as well as stories for CBSNews.com. Earlier, as a producer for CBS News, he was embedded with the 2004 John Kerry campaign, and also covered Capitol Hill and the Pentagon following the 9/11 attacks and during the start of the Iraq war. Most recently, he served as the Vice President of Cable News for TBD.com, the innovative local news website launced by Allbritton Communications, while simultaneously relaunching NewsChannel 8, a 24-hour local cable channel, as TBD-TV in Washington, D.C.
