Chase watch: Stewart's surge continues in Texas

Tony Stewart did it again, this time with the most dominant car on the track. Stewart claimed the AAA Texas 500, his fourth victory of the Chase. While it was incredible, he still isn't the points leader.

Here is how the Chase field fared in Sunday's race at Texas Motor Speedway:

1. Carl Edwards – Finished 2nd: He told his crew not to be down after finishing runner-up, and they shouldn't. Edwards is still the points leader. But when Stewart said last week Edwards should be worried, he wasn't kidding. (-)

2. Tony Stewart – Finished 1st: Let's start the talk now: Stewart has won four of eight Chase races and still isn't the points leader. It's an amazing turnaround, but one that could go for naught if he can't catch Edwards. (-3 points)

3. Kevin Harvick – Finished 13th: It's looking like Harvick will finish third for the second straight season. He's been solid, but still hasn't found that extra gear he had earlier in the season. (-33 points)

4. Matt Kenseth – Finished 4th: When the season is over, Kenseth will be kicking himself for getting involved with Brian Vickers at Martinsville. Had he just ignored Vickers, he'd still be in this title hunt. (-38 points)

5. Brad Keselowski – Finished 24th: Keselowski got ticked on Twitter this week when Mark Martin didn't mention him as one of the best young drivers in the sport. Why does he care? He's clearly proven he's going to be a Chase contender for years to come. (-49 points)

6. Jimmie Johnson – Finished 14th: It feels odd not paying a lick of attention to Jimmie Johnson at this point in the season. The question now is whether he can rally to crack the top 5 in points. He's never finished lower than fifth. (-55 points)

7. Dale Earnhardt Jr. – Finished 7th: That's right, Dale Earnhardt Jr. is up to seventh in the standings. Is that a moral victory Junior Nation? (-79 points)

8. Jeff Gordon – Finished 6th: It's amazing how the Hendrick-supported Stewart has looked so good in the Chase while the actual Hendrick boys haven't. Gordon said his sixth-place run felt like a victory. My how expectations have fallen in the last few weeks. (-81 points)

9. Kurt Busch – Finished 30th: How do you finish 30th and not have the most frustrating day for a member of the Busch family? You actually get to drive your car. (-87 points)

10. Denny Hamlin – Finished 20th: The back half of the Chase field has been so mediocre that Hamlin, who has been admittedly average this season, has a shot at finishing as high as eighth in the standings. (-99 points)

11. Kyle Busch – Did not race: Kudos to Kyle Busch for staying at the track and sitting in his team's pit during the race. Rowdy has a lot of making up to do and it starts with owning your mistakes. (-100 points)

12. Ryan Newman – Finished 16th: Grab your pom poms, Ryan, and cheer on the boss man. (-103 points)
