Dan Wetzel's Week 16 NFL podcast

Twenty-two teams – a neat 11 in each conference – are still in the hunt for a playoff spot in the NFL with two weeks to play. This includes even the 6-8 Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles.

Steve Politi, columnist for The Star-Ledger (N.J.), joins the Dan Wetzel Podcast this week to try to explain how this is possible. Or, at the very least, how Saturday's game between the New York Jets and New York Giants could impact everyone, or no one, or something like that.

First off the bat is deciding whether Mark Sanchez's rumored romance with Kate Upton is 1) a sign he's moved on from high school girls, 2) a direct shot at Tom Brady or 3) a further sign he is the clear heir apparent to Derek Jeter in Manhattan.

Later we get to Tom Coughlin's future, Rex Ryan's latest big talk in the media and whether either team has a defense that's capable of doing anything.

The conversation moves on from there, featuring just about every team that still has a playoff pulse. Pittsburgh, Baltimore, New England, Houston, Cincinnati, Dallas, Green Bay, New Orleans and on and on.

In the past 11 seasons, just one defending Super Bowl champion has reached even the conference finals (New England in 2004). Can the Packers end that trend? Is Atlanta crouching in the weeds this season as the most dangerous NFC team? Why aren't the Saints getting more attention?

Would Tim Tebow against the Steelers be the highest rated wild-card game ever? Does anyone have any faith in the Patriots defense? Are the Lions to be feared since they have nothing to lose and a potentially explosive offense?
