Milkman caught ‘drink-driving’ in float

A milkman from Wales has been arrested for drink-driving after he allegedly took his milk float for a spin in the dark.

Police stopped the man in Pontcanna, Cardiff, in the early hours of Saturday morning following reports of a milk float being driven “erratically.”

According to The Sun, fresh milk deliveries were abandoned as the battery electric vehicle was towed away by a truck after the ‘drunk’ man’s arrest at 1am.

A spokesman from South Wales Police confirmed with Yahoo! News today that a 51-year-old man, who isn’t being named by police, was arrested and subsequently charged on suspicion of drink-driving.

Witness Mike Lyons, 46, was drinking at a club near to where the dairy float was pulled over. He told The Sun: “Somebody came in just before 1am to say there was a kind of road rage incident.”

“We went out and there was this milk float with two cop cars and a police van. They put him in the van then loaded his float on to a tow truck.”

“It was ridiculous. Obviously people shouldn't be drink-driving but this was a bit over the top.”

Police said the man is to appear at Cardiff Magistrates' Court on 20 June.

Milk floats are known to reach speeds of between 10 and 16 mph.
