Report: Rams let Jackson void final year of contract

The St. Louis Rams have allowed running back Steven Jackson to void the final year of his contract, which will allow Jackson to become an unrestricted free agent after this season, CBSSports.com reported Thursday.

According to the report, Jackson needed to average 1,200 rushing yards and 400 receiving yards per season from 2008-2011 to void the final two years of his contract - 2012 and 2013. He did not reach the receiving yardage requirement, but the Rams agreed to renegotiate his deal last month to allow him to void the final year anyway.

Jackson was a first-round pick of the Rams in 2004 and has led the team in rushing every year since 2005.

He has rushed for 195 yards in four games this season.

Jackson, 29, was scheduled to have a base salary of $7 million in 2013.
