More than a dozen people arrested at tailgate before Miami-Nebraska game

A tailgate before Nebraska's game against Miami got unruly in Lincoln, Neb., on Saturday.

According to police, 13-17 people were arrested at a tailgate at the Indian Center near Memorial Stadium. An officer was also taken to the hospital with a head injury.

Three law enforcement departments had to clear 3,000 people from the site. The craziness begain when a bus wanted to get to the place it had reserved at the tailgating spot and people who were already there objected.

From the Lincoln Journal-Star:

About 4 p.m., witnesses said, three Windstar buses with HereForBeer.com tried to make their way to a spot they'd reserved on the northwest side of the property. But the tailgaters who were already packed into that area didn't like it.

The crowd began throwing beer cans and bottles, many of which were full, at the buses, climbing on the buses, kicking them, denting them and ripping off the license plates. Witnesses said some in the crowd were chanting, "Flip the bus! Flip the bus!"

"We were afraid to get off the bus," said Mike Woodson, who came with his wife and kids and HereForBeer.com from Omaha.

(The website is an alcohol-themed event service.)

Sgt. Kathleen Phillips of the Lincoln police department also told the Journal-Star that the crowd threw bottles and cans at police. The officer who had a head injury was hit in the head with a full beer can. The person who threw the can was arrested and charged with assaulting an officer.

The tailgate might have also gotten out of hand because of the presence of a college partying video series. It was filming there on Saturday and we all know that people can do dumb things when cameras are around.

Nebraska beat Miami 41-31. RB Ameer Abdullah had 229 yards rushing against the Hurricanes, who are 2-2 after losing to Louisville in the first week of the season.
