NBA Power Rankings: Spurs still the best

No Tim Duncan, no Manu Ginobili, no Tony Parker, no Stephen Jackson and no coach Gregg Popovich has been no problem for the San Antonio Spurs of late.

The Spurs, who have had varying levels of availability from the aforementioned, remain the top ranked team in Yahoo! Sports' NBA rankings after becoming the first and only team to reach 40 wins this season. San Antonio has also won 13 of its past 14 games.

Records are through Monday.

1. San Antonio Spurs (41-12, previous ranking: first): Tim Duncan has missed eight of the last nine games with a knee injury. If Duncan doesn't play in Sunday's All-Star Game, there will be several qualified candidates to replace him.

2. Oklahoma City Thunder (39-12, previous ranking: second): In a rematch of the 2012 NBA Finals, the Thunder host the Miami Heat on Thursday. The Heat won the first meeting 103-97 on Christmas Day in Miami.

3. Los Angeles Clippers (37-17, previous ranking: third): The Clippers "visit" the cross-town rival Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday. The Clippers could win the season series as they are 2-0 against the Lakers.

4. Miami Heat (34-14, previous ranking: fourth): Center Chris Andersen has already proven to be a great addition and was recently signed for the rest of the season. The oft-troubled journeyman has filled needs for size, rebounding and shot-blocking.

5. New York Knicks (32-17, previous ranking: fifth): According to a source, the Knicks are trying to decide whether to wait for injured veteran big men Rasheed Wallace and Marcus Camby to return from injury or sign a free agent.

6. Memphis Grizzlies (32-18, previous ranking: sixth): The Grizzlies might not be done with roster moves, a source said. While Zach Randolph is safe, Memphis is open to using exceptions worth around $7 million and $3 million to add players.

7. Denver Nuggets (33-19, previous ranking: eighth): The Nuggets are the only team with a top five record in the Western Conference without All-Star representation. The top five Eastern Conference teams each have at least one All-Star.

8. Indiana Pacers (31-21, previous ranking: ninth): Forward Danny Granger (knee) could make his season debut Wednesday against Charlotte. Coach Frank Vogel seems to be leaning toward starting Granger alongside All-Star Paul George.

9. Golden State Warriors (30-21, previous ranking: seventh): Golden State will continue its outside-the-box mentality by wearing short sleeve jerseys Feb. 22 against San Antonio. Wonder what Gregg Popovich will think of those duds?

10. Chicago Bulls (30-21, previous ranking: 10th): On injured point guard Derrick Rose, a source close to the situation said he isn't expected back before March 1, but "he is in a good place." "No timetable is set," the source said.

11. Brooklyn Nets (30-22, previous ranking: 11th): The Nets earned a quality win at Indiana on Monday without injured guard Deron Williams (ankle). The Nets had dropped three of four before the victory.

12. Atlanta Hawks (28-22, previous ranking: 13th): The Spurs are among the teams with interest in Hawks forward Josh Smith, a source told Yahoo! Sports. Keep in mind, Hawks general manager Danny Ferry was previously with the Spurs.

13. Utah Jazz (28-24, previous ranking: 12th): Teams have been showing an interest in Thunder reserve point guard Eric Maynor, formerly of the Jazz. Utah should inquire about him with point guard Mo Williams out.

14. Houston Rockets (28-25, previous ranking: 15th): Guard Jeremy Lin, a Bay Area native, returns to play at Golden State for the first time since the Warriors cut him. One reason Golden State made the move: to keep then-rookie Charles Jenkins.

15. Boston Celtics (27-24, previous ranking: 17th): Boston might have lost another point guard in Leandro Barbosa, who suffered a knee injury Monday at Charlotte and will have an MRI on Tuesday. All-Star Rajon Rondo is also out because of a knee injury.

16. Milwaukee Bucks (25-25, previous ranking: 14th): The Bucks have lost four straight with the last two coming against teams with losing records. Keep an eye on Milwaukee as a target for players before the trade deadline.

17. Los Angeles Lakers (24-28, previous ranking: 18th): The two players who will garner the most interest at All-Star Media Day on Friday will be Kobe Bryant and Dwight Howard. Howard was the center of attention last year, too.

18. Portland Trail Blazers (25-26, previous ranking: 16th): Portland forward J.J. Hickson is in the final year of his contract, but will likely not be dealt because he'll lose his Bird Rights if he is traded and hence has the power to veto any trade.

19. Philadelphia 76ers (22-28, previous ranking: 19th): Sixers center Andrew Bynum told reporters in Philadelphia on Monday that he didn't know when he would make his season debut (knee injury) and wasn't optimistic.

20. Dallas Mavericks (22-29, previous ranking: 20th): Coach Rick Carlisle and president Donnie Nelson have said the Mavericks probably won't make a trade before the deadline, but owner Mark Cuban isn't giving up hope.

21. Minnesota Timberwolves (19-30, previous ranking: 21st): Minnesota ended a four-game losing streak and is just 4-16 since forward Kevin Love was injured. Love plans on attending All-Star weekend in Houston.

22. Detroit Pistons (20-33, previous ranking: 22nd): With Rev. Jesse Jackson sitting courtside, Detroit announced a home crowd of 10,177 with several upper-deck sections entirely empty during a loss to New Orleans on Monday.

23. Toronto Raptors (19-32, previous ranking: 24th): A source said nearly three weeks have passed since the Bulls have had any conversations about sending forward Carlos Boozer to Toronto in a deal for forward Andrea Bargnani.

24. Sacramento Kings (19-33, previous ranking: 23rd): The Kings are 3-8 since the Jan. 21 announcement that the Maloofs had agreed to sell controlling interest of the franchise to Chris Hansen's Seattle-based ownership group.

25. New Orleans Hornets (18-34, previous ranking: 26th): Hornets rookie Anthony Davis, the top pick of last year's draft, will be in the spotlight when he plays in the Rising Stars Challenge on Friday.

26. Washington Wizards (15-35, previous ranking: 29th): The Wizards have won four straight and six of their past 10. But don't start thinking playoffs as Washington is still 10 games out of the eighth and final spot.

27. Phoenix Suns (17-35, previous ranking: 25th): All Suns players are available via trade, according to a source. Phoenix has strong interest in Knicks guard Iman Shumpert that doesn't appear to be reciprocated.

28. Cleveland Cavaliers (16-36, previous ranking: 27th): On the possibility of LeBron James returning to Cleveland as a free agent in 2014, injured forward-center Anderson Varejao says, “there is a chance he could come back"

29. Orlando Magic (15-36, previous ranking: 28th): Center Nikola Vucevic and rookie forward Andrew Nicholson, who is replacing injured Pistons center Andre Drummond, will take part in the Rising Stars Challenge.

30. Charlotte Bobcats (12-39, previous ranking: 30th): Trade talks regarding Brooklyn forward Kris Humphries to Charlotte for guard Ben Gordon are at a standstill, a source said. Charlotte had interest in Humphries as a free agent last summer.
