Star Apps: Jasmine V
There are many ways to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs through October 15. You can brush up on Latin Music, Learn Salsa Dancing, try out Spanish Food Recipes, Learn Spanish with Babbel or Duolingo, or teach your children the Mayan alphabet with The Game of Alphabet of Maya. Or you can rock some Latin pop. I spoke with Jasmine V, who has a new single, "That's Me Right There," featuring Kendrick Lamar, that's burning up YouTube.

Why does Hispanic Heritage Month matter?
Hispanic Heritage Month is so important to me because I feel like we're so underrated at times, and this is a time where we can all come together and show people that we're one and we support each other. It was important for me to be a part of this [Macy's] event because I get to share the stage with inspiring Latinas. We're making a difference with what we got. For me, that's rewarding!
What are some ways that Latinos (and non-Latinos) can celebrate the month?
Some special ways we can celebrate is really being around our friends and families and taking some days off to cherish what we have. I'd love to be able to cook with my family and learn even more about my culture.
What is the role that your Hispanic heritage has played in your life and career?
Basically how strong I am when it comes to being under pressure with what life brings my way. I love the young woman I've grown into today, and I feel like being Latina helped me through it.
You were voted the No. 3 most powerful woman on Twitter and LA's top Twitter user. Why did Twitter appeal to you so much, and in what way were you one of its most powerful women?
I always keep involved with my supporters, and Twitter is definitely an outlet that helps me stay in touch and share my music and thoughts with my fans. I'm so relatable and open with my Jasminators, so I feel like that's what helped.
In light of your new single, "That's Me Right There," how would you describe yourself?
It would definitely be humble, hardworking, and relatable.

What was it like working with Kendrick Lamar?
Working with Kendrick Lamar was amazing! The fact that my first single is with him is a blessing and still a shocker for me.
There are far more Latina pop singers on the US charts today than there were even a decade ago. Now you have Jennifer Lopez, Shakira, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, and so on. I imagine that critics will be comparing you to these other women. What makes you stand out?
I always get compared, and at times I am flattered. I feel like we're all different, and what separates us is the fact that we all have something to bring to the table that represents ourselves. We all stand for something, and we all have our personal stories.
What are your top five apps?
I love social media! My top five apps would be Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, and Ello. They give me the opportunity to stay engaged with fans. They are another way for me to be creative in a live sense with my fans.
