USHL player shatters glass with monster bodycheck at Junior Club World Cup (VIDEO)

With all apologies to Don McLean, it was a shardy, shardy night in Ufa, Russia thanks to the Sioux City Musketeers' Markus Kojo.

Talk about making a good first impression on some new teammates. Kojo opted joined Sioux City recently for his overage season after spending most of his junior tenure in his native Finland, hopping aboard as the Musketeers represented the United States Hockey League at the Junior Club World Cup tournament in Ufa. During Sioux City's win on Friday over Red Bull Salzburg from Austria, the 6-foot-4, 220-pound Kojo delivered a massive and clean bodycheck on a Salzburg forward that shattered a pane of protective glass.

That was a monster check against Red Bull. It really got Kojo's team amped up.

Kojo, 20, spent that past three seasons with Ässät in Finland's junior league. He aged out after last year, prompting a move Stateside. It looks like USHL forwards will have to be sure to keep their heads up.

The Musketeers, guided by Jay Varady (a long-time assistant with the WHL's Everett Silvertips), won that game vs. Salzburg. Its second round-robin game is on Sunday vs. Dinamo Juniors from Russia.

The Quebec League's Cape Breton Screaming Eagles are Canada's representative. Cape Breton beat Belarus' Dinamo-Shinnik 3-2 on Sunday to even its round-robin record at 1-1.
