Beyoncé Releases New Song ‘Bow Down / I Been On’

Beyoncé is telling people to 'Bow Down'!

In posts Sunday on her Tumblr blog and Instagram, Beyoncé linked out to a new song, 'Bow Down / I Been On,' on her Soundcloud page, the first preview of what could be new music from her yet-to-be-announced fifth album.

But could this actually be her next radio comeback single? That seems very unlikely. The sound is certainly a far departure from her typical fare. And it's definitely less radio-friendly than Queen Bey has gone before.

The song truly does seem to be two songs in one and is very hip-hop sounding. Beyoncé's voice is only featured on the first minute of the track, which is down tempo with a dark minor key organ in the background.

"I took some time to live my life / but don't think I'm just his little wife / Don't get it twisted … get it twisted / this is my s--t / bow down bitches," Beyoncé sings.

However, over half of the 3:34 minute song seemingly doesn't feature the 31-year-old icon at all. An unidentified male voice is featured on the second half of the track, rapping over an operatic-sounding female voice in the background (which may or may not be Beyoncé's).

Beyoncé accompanied her post with a picture of what appears to be herself as a young girl, in a pageant dress, surrounded by trophies. There are several mentions in the song of her hometown of Houston, Texas.

According to Rolling Stone, the new track was produced by Hit-Boy. Beyoncé recently told Vogue that her new album would be more "sensual" and "empowering," the latter of which is an appropriate adjective to describe this track.

The last new music Beyoncé released was "Nuclear" with Destiny's Child in January, which received mixed-reviews and lukewarm reception from fans. So far, the comments on this track have been mostly very positive.

It certainly seems like Beyoncé is gearing up for Round 2 of her 2013 publicity tour. Following a few relatively quiet weeks since the Super Bowl, she's now looking good on the cover Shape magazine's April issue talking about her 57-pound weight gain during her pregnancy, and how she lost it. The Shape interview also mentions that Beyonce's album is not due until the end of the year.

Her "The Mrs. Carter Show World Tour" kicks off April 15 in Belgrade, Serbia, and launches in North America on June 28 in Los Angeles, California.
