Elston Turner’s 40 points helps Texas A&M earn a boastful victory at Kentucky

Texas A&M was the surprise team in the Southeastern Conference on the football field in the fall and the Aggies might be the most underrated team from the conference on the hardwood as well.

The Aggies ended Kentucky's 24-game home winning streak in conference play behind 40 points in 40 minutes from senior guard Elston Turner, who had never scored more than 26 in a game previously. Turner was efficient making 14 of 19 field goal attempts and sinking six 3-pointers. He did most of his damage in the first half with 25 points but also played well down the stretch.

It's early to get too excited about the Aggies, but they definitely appeared capable of competing with anyone in the SEC in beating the Wildcats. It was the first Kentucky home loss in conference play in John Calipari's tenure.

Texas A&M was lacking anything resembling a signature victory prior to beating the Wildcats and winning at Kentucky this season isn't quite the achievement it has been in the recent past. But it's still a win every other team in the conference and plenty of others nationally will admire. The Aggies are off to a 2-0 start in their first season in the SEC and they're 12-3 overall.

We'll find out in the coming week if Texas A&M can build on it or whether it was just a good day in a long season. No. 11 Florida visits College Station on Thursday.
