Nokia's New Lumia Windows Phone Feels Like A Lead Weight Compared To The iPhone 5
AT&T held a swanky event in New York Thursday night to show off its lineup of devices for the holiday shopping season.
The star of the show was probably Nokia's new Lumia 920 Windows Phone, the one Nokia announced about a month ago. AT&T will be the exclusive carrier of the Lumia 920 and its little brother the Lumia 820, so there were a few devices on display to play around with.
(Well, we were only allowed to hold the Lumia 920 since Microsoft's new Windows Phone 8 software isn't finished yet. Microsoft will show off the final version of the new operating system at an event on Oct. 29.)
This was our first time seeing the Lumia 920 since the iPhone 5 launch, so it was worth taking some time to compare the two. While the Lumia 920 is stunningly gorgeous, it weighs a ton compared to the sleek iPhone 5. And it's a lot thicker.
Now, on paper the thickness and weight difference between the Lumia 920 (10.7 mm thick, 185 grams) and iPhone 5 (7.6 mm, 112 grams) don't seem to matter much. But when you hold the two phones side by side, the Lumia feels like a giant lead weight compared to the feather-light iPhone 5. When you set the two phones next to each other on the table, the Lumia towers over the iPhone 5.
Don't take this to mean that the Lumia 920 is a cheap piece of junk. It isn't. But when you compare it to the iPhone 5's design and feel, the iPhone 5 is the clear winner.
