Paralyzed Tulane safety Devon Walker heading home from rehab for the holidays
The holidays will be a little happier for paralyzed Tulane safety Devon Walker, who will be released from rehab and home for Christmas.
Walker has been immobile since suffering a cervical spine fracture against Tulsa on Sept. 8 when he collided with teammate Julius Warmsley. Walker, a junior, has been at an undisclosed rehab facility.
At the time of the injury, Walker, a walk-on safety, was a three-year letterwinner and one of the top defensive players for the Green Wave. Walker had nine tackles in a season-opening loss to Rutgers the week before his accident.
Now, after a turbulent three months he returns, home for the holidays.
"I am so happy to be going home where I can reunite with my family and friends," Walker said in a statement released by Tulane. "My family and I are very grateful for the support we continue to receive. Some days, when I think that I just can't do this anymore, remembering my many friends and supporters [both old and new] who are praying for me gives me the strength to go on. I know that my fight is just beginning. Please continue to pray for my recovery. Thank you very much."
