ZBB Energy Signs an Agreement to Provide a 2,000 kWh ZBB EnerStore(TM) System for an Island Microgrid Project at the Luxury Eco-Resort The Brando on Tetiaroa

ZBB EnerStore™ System Integral to Powering Property in French Polynesia Designed to Be the First LEED™ Platinum Certified Destination Resort in the World

MILWAUKEE, WI--(Marketwire - Dec 6, 2012) - ZBB Energy Corporation (NYSE MKT: ZBB), a leading developer of intelligent power and energy management technologies, today announced it has signed an agreement to supply its 2,000 kWh ZBB EnerStore™ System, including 40 ZBB EnerStore™ modules, for the luxury eco-resort The Brando project in French Polynesia, designed to be the first LEED™ (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum certified destination resort in the world, as a new construction and in the campus category.

Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), LEED™ consists of a suite of rating systems for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings, homes and neighborhoods. The Council rates energy efficiency into four categories, including Certified, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Platinum is the highest LEED™ certification.

The resort's electrical supply will include a mix of renewable energy sources, including an 896 kW array of photovoltaic (PV) panels and generators that use sustainable biofuels made from locally sourced coconut oil.

The project is focused on environmental sustainability, while eliminating the use of fossil fuels and providing for a carbon-free footprint. The ZBB technology allows the resort to significantly minimize the amount of fuel consumed by utilizing generators for back-up purposes only when stored PV energy is not significant enough to meet overnight demand. In terms of storage size and dollar value, this project represents the largest 'island microgrid' contract to date for ZBB.

"The system is scheduled to be fully operational during 2013," said Richard Bailey, President and CEO of Pacific Beachcomber, SC. "We investigated various storage technologies, and after we completed our due diligence, it became evident that the ZBB EnerStore™ System would provide us with the best system design and lowest overall life cycle costs," said Pascal Lombard, Director for the project.

A video on the project can be viewed here: Tetiaroa Brando Resort Video. More can be read at: www.pacificbeachcomber.com and http://tetiaroa.pf/

"This system demonstrates the scalability and cost of ownership advantages of Zinc Bromide flow batteries. The use of our DC topology to integrate the various microgrid assets is a great example of how our technologies radically simplify real world microgrids. We appreciate the confidence that Pacific Beachcomber has placed in ZBB's products for this incredible groundbreaking eco-resort," said Eric C. Apfelbach, President and CEO of ZBB Energy.
