BCS Standings Week 2: Kansas State gets into the mix
Kansas State's 55-14 win over West Virginia has made the Wildcats a legitimate contender for a trip to the BCS national championship.
The Wildcats pushed Oregon out of the third spot in the BCS standings behind No. 1 Alabama and No. 2 Florida. Oregon dropped to No. 4.
While it was a stellar move forward for the Wildcats and Heisman hopeful quarterback Collin Klein, it did raise questions about what the Ducks, who are ranked No. 2 in both human polls, have to do to get some respect in the BCS standings?
Oregon is unbeaten, thrashed Arizona State, the second-best team in the Pac-12 South, 43-21 and has had little trouble with any of its opponents so far this season. However, Arizona State wasn't ranked as highly as West Virginia, so the computers favored the Wildcats.
Kansas State is ranked No. 2 in the computer polls while Oregon is floundering at No. 6. But an Oregon surge is possible. The Ducks have three ranked teams remaining on their schedule — No. 9 USC, No. 17 Stanford and No. 7 Oregon State — so there will be ample opportunity to make up ground whereas Kansas State's schedule softens a bit with ranked games against No. 14 Texas Tech and No. 23 Texas.
Alabama and Florida continue to duel at the top, but with Kansas State and Oregon nipping at their heels, one surely will be out of the race when/if the two meet in the SEC title game.
