You know, it took me a really long time to get comfortable enough with myself to be able to go out and do something as simple as run errands without putting on at least a little bit makeup. My beauty routine isn't that heavy to begin with-just the basics: blush, lip gloss, you know the drill-but for some reason, I long harbored a fear of being seen without it. Happily, I got over myself. Because it is normal for people to appear in public without makeup. Hoorah.
Like these celebs! They're not afraid to show up somewhere au natural, and that's awesome. Sometimes that means they look a little different from the way we're used to seeing them, but hey. Whatever. Going to the grocery store is not the same thing as hitting the red carpet. Want to know more? Read on!
1. Adele
The paps caught Adele having a nice glass of wine at a café back in September, and she was kind of adorable about it. After first attempting to hide her face in her incredibly comfy-looking sweater, she eventually popped her head out and gave a good-natured wave. Awww.
2. Sofia Vergara
This is my second-favorite photo of Modern Family star (and all-round awesome person) Sofia Vergara. The first is this one from her recent ride on Splash Mountain. Both of them are amazing.
3. Taylor Swift
Sure, we may be used to seeing Taylor all glammed out at awards shows, but occasionally, she ventures out with all the glitz. Here she is at LAX a couple of weeks ago-and without makeup, she just looks like a normal 22-year-old girl. Stars: They're just like us!... or something.
4. Rihanna
Now, it's possible that Ri-Ri actually has a teeny bit of makeup on here-correct me if I'm wrong, but I spy with my little eye some lip gloss, eyeliner, and maybe a touch of foundation. Still, though-this is a far cry from her usual performance-ready self. And she's still gorgeous!
5. Keira Knightley
There are some pretty wacky pictures of British beauty Keira Knightley without any cosmetic enhancement out there, but some of them-like this one, for instance-look like they've been pretty heavily Photoshopped (I find it unlikely that Keira Knightley looks like a plague victim when she's not wearing makeup). However, I'm pretty certain that the one above is just Keira, out and about and (at least mostly) makeup-free. Bless her excellent bone structure.
6. Rooney Mara
Even though she's been wowing us with her red carpet looks all season, Rooney Mara has saidthat one of her favorite things about working on The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo was just being able to roll out of bed and go to work without worrying about what she looks like. Given that that's usually what I do, I totally understand. Then again, I'm a writer who works from home and she's a movie star, but… whatever.
7. Christina Hendricks
This may be another case of a little bit of makeup possibly being present-it's glorious what a quick sweep of blush and a quicker swipe of lip gloss can do-but Mad Men star Christina Hendricks doesn't look like bombshell Joan Holloway ALL the time. And that's totally fine by us! Bonus points for the gigantic specs.
6. Katy Perry
Remember when this pic of Katy Perry hit the interwebs? Ex-hubby Russell Brand snapped it in bed before subsequently Tweeting out to his eight bajillion followers. Katy wasn't too pleased, so he quickly took it down-but not before it managed to infiltrate deep in the depths of the World Wide Web, where it will likely remain preserved for all time.

Sans makeup and with natural hair, Beyonce still looks like a superstar!

Because she's usually busy being a hot mess, it's easy to forget that Paz de la Huerta is only 27. But look! Look how young and fresh faced and NOT like a hot mess she looks here! Is that amazing or what?
12. Marilyn Manson
Did you have any idea that this is what Marilyn Manson, a.k.a. Brian Hugh Warner, looked like under all that white pancake makeup and panda-like eyeliner? Yeah, me neither. Surprise!
