Bubba Watson lets a potentially brilliant round of golf get away from him

Through his first 13 holes on Saturday, it looked like Bubba Watson could be a factor in the final round of the British Open.

With six birdies already on his scorecard, Watson was cruising along at 5-under for the tournament and looked to be in complete control of his game.

Drives were finding the fairway. Putts were falling from all over the place. For a brief moment Watson had us all believing the course record 64, posted by Adam Scott and Brandt Snedeker on Thursday and Friday, was in serious jeopardy.

Watson was no doubt rolling along, but if there's one thing he's been known for over his career -- aside from his insane length off the tee -- it's his ability to go from red-hot to ice cold in just a couple holes. And that's exactly what happened down the stretch on Saturday, as Watson picked up a bogey on the 14th and a double of the 15th to go from 5-under to 2-under, all but ending his bid to win the Masters and British Open in the same season.

"Thoughts on my round= great golf for 13 holes - bad golf for 2 holes - good golf for 3 holes. #GolfIsHard," Watson said via his Twitter account after his round.

Golf may be hard, but for 13 holes, Watson made the game look incredibly easy. If not for a couple of unfortunate errors down the stretch, he likely would've been one of the biggest stories heading into Sunday.
