Miley Cyrus says she was inspired by Motown for her new album

It was just last year that Miley Cyrus was wrapping up "Hannah Montana" on the Disney Channel, and she didn't waste any time leaving her former child star status behind. Not only has the 19-year-old since become engaged to her boyfriend Liam Hemsworth, but she's also making some big moves in her career. In a new interview with Rolling Stone, the singer/actress revealed that fans can expect some new music from her — soon. "I'm thinking hopefully November for a single," she told the magazine. "It's just whenever we feel we've got that [song] we feel really confident in being the first single. I've got songs right now I feel like could potentially be singles, [but] it's been two years that I haven't said anything, and I want that to be the right thing we say." Of course, the more grown-up Cyrus has been more involved in this album than in previous efforts. "I worked with Pharrell on a bunch of things, and Pop & Oak, and I've just been writing, mostly, focusing on what I want to say, rather than turning it into a label later and not knowing what my sound is going to be."

The songstress also revealed that the inspiration for the tracks came from an unexpected place. "[Hemsworth] was filming a movie in New Orleans, so I got into the older Motown Sound vibe, which is really fun to mix with this country pop sound," she explained. "I listened to a lot of Irma Thomas and tried to get that old soul into it, too. When you're making a record you never think of what weird direction you're going to go, but that was something that popped up in a few of the sessions we've been working on, and it's been really fun."

Cyrus' last album, Can't Be Tamed, was released in June 2010, and sold a lackluster 106,553 copies in its first week. The songs didn't get much attention, but the music video Cyrus released for the title track did, thanks to the sexy image she sported in it. The newly blond Cyrus will soon play another racy role as she guest stars on the CBS sitcom "Two and a Half Men." Still photos from the set show her sporting a sexy nightgown while in bed with Ashton Kutcher, 34, and seductively touching the arm of Angus T. Jones, 18. The episode airs on October 17.
