UFC 153 Update: Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Dave Herman Expected to Fight in Rio

Report: Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Fabricio Werdum Set as TUF Brasil 2 Coaches

“Main and co main in the same day!! Another amazing day at the UFC,” wrote UFC president Dana White on Tuesday on Twitter. “We have some work to do.”

That was after he found out earlier in the day that co-main eventer Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and headliner Jose Aldo both fell out of their respective UFC 153 bouts due to injury.

UFC 153 is slated for Oct. 13 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Little more than 24 hours later and at least part of the UFC’s work appears to be done.

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Dave Herman have agreed to square off at UFC 153, filling a portion of the gap left by Tuesday’s injury announcement, according to MMAWeekly.com sources.

For Nogueira (33-7-1), the bout will mark his first fight in close to a year. Big Nog suffered a broken arm in his fight with Frank Mir at UFC 140 last December. The Brazilian refused to tap to a Kimura.

Nogueira was originally expected to face Shawn Jordan in his return at UFC 149, but his arm had not healed up in time.

Herman (21-4), after winning his Octagon debut last year, has had a rough go of it thus far in 2012. He enters the fight with Nogueira on the heels of back-to-back losses to Stefan Struve and Roy Nelson.

News of a potential match-up between Nogueira and Herman first surfaced in a report from Tatame.com reporter Guilherme Cruz.
