Anthony Davis will report to Team USA's Olympic camp after spraining ankle

New Orleans Hornets No. 1 pick Anthony Davis will report to Team USA's training camp in Las Vegas on Wednesday after spraining his ankle last week, a league source told Yahoo! Sports.

After sustaining an ankle injury in a Hornets workout on Saturday, the expectation was that Davis would miss too much of the USA Basketball's training camp and likely would bow out of competition to make the final roster for the Olympic team. Nevertheless, the ankle injury didn’t turn out to be as serious as originally feared. After Lamar Odom, another frontcourt player, decided not to attend camp, it was decided Davis could take the time needed to heal the ankle and return to practice.

Davis, a 6-foot-11 center from Kentucky, could return to practice for Team USA within a week to 10 days. USA Basketball managing director Jerry Colangelo and coach Mike Krzyzewski plan to be patient with Davis, especially with the glut of injuries that have hit the team's frontline. Chris Bosh, Dwight Howard and LaMarcus Aldridge are already out for Team USA.

Team USA will train this week in Las Vegas and play an exhibition game in July 12 against the Dominican Republic team. Team USA has stops in Washington, D.C.; Manchester, England; and Barcelona, Spain; before arriving in London on July 27 for the Olympics.
