5 Questions For Travis Wall

5 Questions For Travis Wall

Through the routines he's created for So You Think You Can Dance, fans have learned a lot about Travis Wall over the years (his Fix You piece perfectly exemplifies this), but the Emmy-winning choreographer is about to put his life on display in an unprecedented way with the premiere of All The Right Moves.

In the new Oxygen docuseries, Travis chronicles the growing pains that come from starting his own studio. Additionally, the cameras go beyond the stage and into his home which Travis shares with Kyle Robinson, Nick Lazzarini and Teddy Forance his longtime best friends and partners in this new endeavor). TheInsider.com caught up with Travis to talk about the highs and lows of making Moves.

TheInsider.com: How do you describe All The Right Moves?
Travis Wall: It's best friends – we live together, we work together, we started this dance company, which is in the world of contemporary. We're trying to become a commercial dance company while also still having our solo careers, so we're still competing for the same jobs. But we've known each other for years, so it's friendly competition. We fight like brothers, we live like brothers and we love like brothers.

Insider.com: You've done reality shows before, but this is more of a docuseries -- was it different than you expected?
Travis: I didn't know what I was getting myself into [laughs]. The journey has been a huge rollercoaster and a massive undertaking, but it's been amazing. It's also been incredible because my fans have seen a lot of me on So You Think You Can Dance, but now they get to see a lot of the backstory to the work.

Insider.com: There was an MTV show called Dancelife about the struggles of being a professional dancer -- how is this different?
Travis: Our show is real. We're not four strangers thrown into a house, we have literally known each other forever. We started thinking about this company two years ago and [Oxygen] came to us, we were not looking to do a reality show. But we really get down to the nitty-gritty. I am showing you inside and out who I am. There are no filters. You see my relationship [with boyfriend Dom Palange], you see my relationship with my boys, with my mom and the relationship I have with the dance industry.

Insider.com: You also choreographed Step Up: Revolution. What was it like working on your first movie in this capacity?
Travis: We literally had to put the whole movie together in 3 weeks. I did all the contemporary work and had one flashmob scene, so I was pretty much in charge of everything Katherine [McCormack, SYTYCD alum and Revolution star] did. It was my first movie and I literally could not be more proud. I'm so happy with it.

Insider.com: How does it compare to the previous three?
Travis: The dancing is completely different. A lot more contemporary routines this time, and it's a lot more about the love story. It's not just flashy "OMG, look at all the dancing!" It takes you through this true love story from start to finish. It goes back to the roots of the first one, but still has the fun of three. To me, this is the best Step Up movie yet.

All The Right Moves premieres July 31 at 9 p.m. on Oxygen.
