133 points? West Virginia and Baylor have a shootout for the ages
Baylor-West Virginia wasn't a video game. The video game console would have burned out before the game was done.
The final score in Morgantown was West Virginia 70, Baylor 63, which fell just short of the record for combined points in a game between two FBS teams. The record is 136 points, set in a 74-62 win by Navy over North Texas in 2007.
Baylor quarterback Nick Florence had 582 yards, and he wasn't even close to being the top passer in the game.
West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith was amazing, as the Heisman Trophy candidate set school records for yards, touchdowns and completions. Smith was 45-of-51 for 656 yards with eight touchdowns and no interceptions. Smith may have made the Heisman race irrelevant before October arrives.

Here's a rundown of some more amazing stats. You won't see these numbers in a game between two ranked teams very often:
• There were 1,506 yards in the game. West Virginia had 808 and Baylor had 698. Coming into this week's games, 55 of 120 teams in FBS didn't have 1,506 yards of offense on the season.
• Baylor had 38 first downs, and West Virginia had 37. The record for most first downs in a game is 78, set in a game between Houston and Louisiana Tech this year. Before this week, Temple had 37 first downs for the season.
• The teams were a combined 23-of-31 on third-down efficiency, and Baylor was 1-for-1 on fourth down.

• The teams combined for 1,238 passing yards, just short of the FBS record of 1,253 set by TCU and Houston in 1990. While the quarterbacks were the story, the running games weren't bad either. The teams had 268 yards rushing combined.
• There was only one turnover, an interception by West Virginia 18 seconds into the game. That came on Baylor's second offensive play. There wasn't a turnover for the last 178 offensive plays of the game.
• Six receivers had 100 yards in the game. Two receivers had more than 300 yards, and another had over 200. Baylor's Terrance Williams had 314 yards on 17 catches. Stedman Bailey had 303 yards on 13 catches for West Virginia, and five touchdowns. West Virginia's Tavon Austin had 215 yards on 14 catches.
• Smith had more touchdowns (eight) than incompletions (five). He now has 20 touchdowns and no interceptions this season.
• There were 19 touchdowns, which is more than the combined number of penalties (nine), sacks (four) and punts (four) in the game.
Those stats don't tell the story of some of the highlight plays, like a ridiculous one-handed catch by West Virginia's J.D. Woods to pick up a key first down late in the game with the Mountaineers trying to run out the clock, the crazy touchdown on the final play of the first half or some of the artistic throws Smith made throughout the day. And yes, even Austin's botched attempt at a touchdown celebration.
There probably won't be another game like it in college football this season, or perhaps for many seasons to come.
