Iowa-Charlotte AHL brawl sees 230 PIMs in third period (Video)

Surgeon General's Warning: this post is not for those who are against fighting in hockey.

The AHL's Iowa Wild were down 5-0 to the Charlotte Checkers with 15:55 left to go on Wednesday. Wild players were no doubt frustrated seeing as their team is last place in the AHL's Western Conference and 11 points out of the last playoff spot.

What do players do when they're frustrated and the game is out of hand? They fight!

In the third period alone, the two teams amassed a total of 230 penalty minutes. The teams had barely enough players to complete the game. Charlotte ended up winning 7-0.

Said Wild captain Jake Dowell afterward, via the Des Moines Register: “It’s embarrassing when it comes to that. But, we’re proud of each other for sticking up for one another and sticking up for ourselves. But, that shouldn’t have to happen again.

“That’s not the way we like to see hockey games go because that’s not really playing hockey. That’s just brawling.”
