Florida to alternate quarterbacks in the first and second quarters

For those who were hoping Florida would settle on a starting quarterback prior to Saturday's season opener against Bowling Green, you're going to be disappointed.

Coach Will Muschamp said he's going with a two-quarterback system until either Jacoby Brissett or Jeff Driskel separates from the other.

Funny, Muschamp's old school — Texas — is having a similar quarterbacking dilemma.

But, unlike Texas, Muschamp didn't declare which of the two would officially start the game. Instead, he said one would play the first quarter, the other would play the second and the coaching staff would go from there.

As I noted with the Texas quarterbacking situation, having two quarterbacks usually means you have no quarterbacks.

At least these guys know they have one quarter to prove themselves. Yep, 15 minutes to win the starting job against a Bowling Green team that can't exactly be thrilled that Florida is — at least from its substitution patterns — treating this game a lot like an intrasquad scrimmage.

Brissett and Driskel, who actually injured his nonthrowing shoulder on Aug. 12 but has been cleared to play, have been competing for the starting role since the spring. Brissett started two games last season and threw for 206 yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions. Driskell played in spot time, throwing for 148 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions.
