Keegan Bradley wins Bridgestone Invitational with incredible par save on the 18th
If you were to poll 20 people on their favorite month of the year, there' a good chance August wouldn't top the list. The month usually means one thing, and that's insanely hot weather -- like the kind that keeps you inside glued to your couch, hugging the A/C unit. August is about as welcomed as a plugged lie in a bunker.
Pretty much everyone hates the month ... except one guy. That would be Keegan Bradley, who seems to thrive in the sweltering heat, despite the fact that he grew up in Woodstock, Vermont. One year after Bradley came from behind to win the PGA Championship at Atlanta Athletic Club, he added another August title with another come-from-behind win, this time over Jim Furyk at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.
For much of the day it looked like Bradley would come up just short of picking up a momentum-building victory ahead of his PGA Championship title defense. But with Jim Furyk nursing a one-shot lead on the 18th hole, Bradley finally found an opening after Furyk's approach shot found an awful downhill lie just above the greenside bunker.
Bradley, however, failed to capitalize on the gift, hitting his approach shot right of the flag and watching as it slammed into the greenside bunker. When he walked up on the ball, he noticed it was sitting in a plugged lie.
Ball game? Not quite, but Bradley would have to get up-and-down to have a chance -- something he was able to do, after he blasted out and canned the 15-footer, forcing Furyk to make his bogey putt to extend the match.
When Furyk failed to make Bradley walked away with his second August title and ensured that he'll be the big story heading into next week's PGA Championship.
Not bad for a 26-year-old who's only in his second full season on the PGA Tour. Based on the way he was playing earlier this year, a PGA Championship repeat was all but out of the question. But after Sunday's brilliant 6-under 64 and the clutch finish on 18th, the thought of Bradley hoisting the Wanamaker trophy again at Kiawah doesn't seem all that crazy.
