Kelly Clarkson addresses ‘all these rumors that I’m a lesbian’

Kelly Clarkson has built a successful career singing about being "Miss Independent" and "Stronger" without a guy in her life. And all those hit songs — and no boyfriends — led to rampant rumors that she in fact was into women. But now, Clarkson is finally addressing the speculation. "Oh, there's all those rumors that I'm a lesbian," she tells Lucky in its first-ever music issue. "I have a boyfriend now, Brandon Blackstock, my manager Narvel's son, Reba McEntire's stepson." Her new man was on hand for her recent 30th birthday on April 24 … and what did the happy couple do to mark the milestone? "We went turkey shooting," she tells the mag. "It's what I wanted to do, so we went."

American Idols' Style: Then and Now

Not only has Clarkson found happiness in her personal life, but her music career is also back on track after disappointing sales and critical panning of her 2007 album, My December. Her last two releases, 2009's All I Ever Wanted and her most recent Stronger, have catapulted the original "American Idol" back to her superstar status, giving her the creative freedom to do things her way. "People act like there's this one set of rules to follow to be a pop star, and I think, 'Well, you say I'm a pop star, so maybe that's not true.'" Adds Clarkson, "The hardest thing about being in this business is just being able to be yourself."

Karen Elson's Favorite Vintage Shops

Clarkson, who was interviewed from the set of her new ABC singing competition, "Duets," has been able to take what she has learned over the years and use it to help the show's contestants. "Last week, one of the 'Duets' contestants was crying," explains Clarkson. "She said, 'I gave everything up to come here, and I'm scared.' I thought back to 'Idol' and how I didn't know much except that I was scared, and that I had nothing left to lose. I told her, 'That fear? It's your power in this situation. Use it, because it's your fire.'"

Style Inspired by Hit Songs

The tomboyish singer also dishes on her girly side. Although she says she prefers T-shirts and jeans, she's also a fan of Herve Leger's bandage dress. "They're like built-in Spanx," she tells Lucky. As for her beauty routine, Clarkson reveals, "I just blow-dry my hair and put on mascara and lip gloss, and I'm ready to go. I really don't get long nails. They're so Edward Scissorhands."
