Elisabeth Hasselbeck Slams Bristol Palin for Criticizing Obama on Gay Marriage

Elisabeth Hasselbeck, who describes herself as "conservative" on ABC's "The View," slammed Bristol Palin on Monday for the single mom's criticism of President Obama's new stance on gay marriage.

In a ghost-written blog post titled "Hail to the Chiefs -- Malia and Sasha Obama," Palin, the oldest daughter of former Alaska Governor and GOP pundit Sarah Palin, mocked the President for considering his daughters' points of view.

"While it's great to listen to your kids' ideas, there's also a time when dads simply need to be dads," the post reads. "In this case, it would've been helpful for him to explain to Malia and Sasha that while her friends parents are no doubt lovely people, that's not a reason to change thousands of years of thinking about marriage. Or that - as great as her friends may be - we know that in general kids do better growing up in a mother/father home. Ideally, fathers help shape their kids' worldview."

"In this situation, it was the other way around," the post continues. "I guess we can be glad that Malia and Sasha aren't younger, or perhaps today's press conference might have been about appointing Dora the Explorer as Attorney General because of her success in stopping Swiper the Fox. Sometimes dads should lead their family in the right ways of thinking. In this case, it would've been nice if the President would've been an actual leader and helped shape their thoughts instead of merely reflecting what many teenagers think after one too many episodes of Glee."

Aside from the irony of the never-been-married single mom underscoring the importance of a two-parent "mother/father" nuclear family (earlier this year, she told "inTouch" that her son's father, Levi Johnson, rarely visited the boy or paid child support), critics quickly pointed out that Palin's blog post was off-base about Obama. In his May 9 interview with Robin Roberts, Obama said that his change in perspective was prompted by his observations of his daughters' and their friends' parents, not that he consulted with his children. Now, Palin is also facing criticism for focusing on president's daughters, who are 13 and 10 years old.

"I have a major problem with her saying this," Hasselbeck said. "Number one, as you mature as a mother you will also find out that the conversations you have with your kids do influence how you place your opinions on the table. Secondly, for someone who was the victim of being brought into an election as the child of someone on the ticket, how dare you then bring in Sasha and Malia to this situation. You need to mature because you are not."
