Keith Richards buys marked-down NYC penthouse
Even a rock legend loves a bargain.
Granted, a multimillion-dollar Manhattan penthouse may strain the definition of "bargain." But Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones did manage to snap this home up for nearly a third off its original price -- $10.5 million, vs. an initial ask of $15 million, according to StreetEasy records. The sale to Richards was reported by Luxury Listings NYC and confirmed by our friends at Zillow Blog.

The lovely Greenwich Village duplex -- in a building so well known that "Sex and the City" creator Candace Bushnell titled one of her novels its address, "One Fifth Avenue" -- has four bedrooms and four full bathrooms in 2,700 square feet of living space.
The "townhouse in the sky," as Nikki Field's listing for Sotheby's International Realty put it, was the result of combining separate units into one. Lest 2,700 square feet seem too cramped, the 2011 renovation by Joe Serrins Architecture Studio makes use of pivoting and sliding panels for flexible-use spaces.
Post-renovation, "small rooms now flow into each other like an interior landscape, creating a 50-foot-long space for entertaining with expansive views to the north, and a grand master suite to the south," says the Serrins website, which contains even more photos.
And there's one detail we think must strike a chord with Richards: The stairs sport a handrail of burgundy leather, the perfect rock-star touch.
