BMW Championship win solidifies Rory McIlroy’s spot as the best player in the world

The wins just keeping coming for Rory McIlroy. One week after the 23-year-old held on to win the Deutsche Bank Championship for his third win of the season, he backed it up with another stellar performance to pick up his second straight win and third in his last four events at the BMW Championship with a 5-under 67 to win by two shots.

No doubt about it, McIlroy's in a zone that only a select few golfers have found in their career -- and the scary thing is this appears to just be the start of a magical run for the best player in golf. How good is McIlroy playing at the moment? He's a collective 53-under in his last three wins, including an eight-shot win at the PGA Championship.

While the wins and the eye-popping stats are incredible, what made Sunday's win at the BMW Championship stand out from the rest of his victories was the fact that he held off the best leaderboard of the season to make it happen.

The eight-shot win at the PGA Championship will go down as McIlroy's pièce de résistance for 2012, but to come from a shot back and topple a BMW leaderboard that included the likes of Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods, Dustin Johnson, Lee Westwood, Adam Scott, and Vijay Singh tells you everything you need to know about the kid's game and mindset at the moment.

With his confidence level at an all-time, the big question now is where McIlroy goes from here. Like Tiger Woods when he started to string wins together, it's time to see if he can keep it going for not only the Tour Championship at East Lake, but the Ryder Cup ... and into next season.

We're witnessing something special here, folks. It's time to sit back, relax and enjoy a truly incredible stretch of golf from Rory McIlroy.
