Thousands of diving spectators will have obstructed views at Olympics
Thousands of spectators are going to be disappointed when they arrive to their seats for the Olympic platform diving competitions and it'll have nothing to do with the fact they're stuck watching platform diving.
Nearly 3,500 ticket holders for the diving competitions will have obstructed views of the 10-meter platform at London's Aquatic Centre, meaning that they won't be able to clearly see the takeoffs of divers like hometown hero Tom Daley and favorite Qui Bo.
This view below is actually one of the better obstructed seats. You can see how close the platform (appearing just above the left side of the top of the pool) is to the steel beams. Seats closer to the lap pool have almost no view of the tallest board.
The obstructed-view tickets cost around $75. They provide a clear, if faraway, view of the three-meter springboards. Spectators at eight diving sessions will be affected by the seats, which had to be purchased in a blind lottery.
