Madonna puts swastika on French politician’s face during concert in Israel
It seems the Material Girl is at it again, generating yet another controversy.
While performing in Tel Aviv last week, pop icon Madonna splashed an image of French National Front party leader Marine Le Pen with a swastika over her face, E! Online reports.
The image was up for just a moment, The Hollywood Reporter notes, and was shown in a montage featuring her song “Nobody Knows Me.” Other images on the screen included the faces of Sarah Palin, Chinese President Hu Jintao and Pope Benedict XVI.
Le Pen was vague when asked if she is considering taking legal action against the singer, Entertainment Weekly reports. Le Pen took over the party from her father, who had been accused of making racist remarks and publicly condoning hate crimes. (SEE ALSO: French press corps hounds Le Pen during DC visit)
Le Pen issued a statement mocking the singer’s age and relevancy, adding, “If she does that in France, we’ll be waiting.”
In April Le Pen garnered 17.9 percent of the vote in the first round of France’s presidential election. Her third-place finish was the best to-date by her party, which has a particularly strong following among French voters concerned about illegal immigration.
