Which teams that played in BCS games last season will return this season? Our experts weigh in

At the College Football Roundtable, we occasionally ask members of the coverage staff for their opinion about a topic in college football.

This week's question: Today is exactly two months from the start of the season. But let's look ahead to the end of the season: Which teams that played in a BCS bowl last season will be in a BCS bowl this season?

Mike Huguenin's answer: I think five of the 10 will make their way back – Alabama, LSU, Michigan, Oregon and Wisconsin. I can see LSU and Michigan as conference champs, and the other three as at-large picks. I'll also go with USC, Louisville, Oklahoma and Florida State to be league champs and BCS participants. That leaves one spot, for either a second Big 12 team (the most likely scenario), a second ACC team, a second Big East team (the most unlikely scenario) or a BCS "interloper" (i.e., Boise State, if the retooling Broncos somehow can manage to go unbeaten, which is possible if they win at Michigan State on Aug. 30).

Steve Megargee's answer: Alabama and LSU – the teams that faced off in last season's championship game – should get back in the BCS mix this season. You always can count on the SEC getting two BCS bids every season, and Alabama and LSU once again look like the two best teams in the conference. I might have been tempted to include Arkansas as one of the SEC's BCS participants if Bobby Petrino still were around. Not anymore, though. I also like Rose Bowl champion Oregon to earn a BCS bid. I expect USC to win the Pac-12, but Oregon should get an at-large berth. That would leave a Stanford team without Andrew Luck to settle for a second-tier bowl. Ohio State's postseason ban should make it easier for Michigan and Wisconsin to get BCS invitations again, but I think only one of them returns. Michigan had one of those magical seasons in 2011 in which everything seemed to work out perfectly. I wouldn't be surprised if the Wolverines take a small step backward this season, allowing Nebraska and Wisconsin to earn the Big Ten's BCS invitations. I think Florida State wins the ACC title and gets the conference's lone BCS bid, leaving Clemson and Virginia Tech out. And I expect Oklahoma State and 2012 Big East champion West Virginia to finish behind Oklahoma in the Big 12 standings.
