Sixers to give Lavoy Allen two-year deal
The Philadelphia 76ers have reached an agreement in principle with center Lavoy Allen on a two-year, $6 million contract, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.
Allen, the 50th overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft, was one of the surprise performers in the rookie class, contributing toughness and defense to the Sixers' impressive postseason run. Allen started 15 games and played solidly at times in the absence of starter Spencer Hawes.
Hawes is an unrestricted free agent, and Allen’s signing gives the 76ers some comfort should Hawes accept an offer elsewhere. Philadelphia wants to re-sign Hawes, but seems willing to let him test the market before making its strongest offer, sources said.
Allen averaged four points and four rebounds for the Sixers, who advanced to the Eastern Conference semifinals. Allen can't sign his contract until the NBA’s free-agent moratorium ends July 11.
