Mariska Hargitay and Amaya Play in Central Park

Mariska Hargitay and her husband, Peter Hermann, brought along a very special "plus one" to the Central Park Conservancy's Annual Playground Party on Wednesday: their one-year-old daughter, Amaya.

The couple appeared smitten with their little girl, whom they adopted just over a year ago. While milling around the event at Heckscher Playground, they gave Amaya — who was dressed in a red dress and white shoes — kisses on her cheek and cuddled her between them. Activities at the event, for which Hargitay was the honorary chairperson, included glitter tattoos, face-painting, and cupcake decorating.

Hargitay and Hermann's family experienced a baby boom in 2011. Just six months after bringing home Amaya, they also adopted a baby boy named Andrew, who will turn one this summer. "They'll lie in the crib together, and she'll hold his hand and put her arm around him," Hargitay told People of her two little ones. "She's already so protective of him."

The couple said the driving force behind growing their family was their eldest son, August, who is 5. "He would come home from school and go, 'I want a baby sister! I want a baby sister!'" she told the magazine. He's a hands-on brother and even helped select their names, which all start with the letter "A." "We all talked about names because everything is a family decision in our house," she said.

Although Hargitay clearly has her hands full at home, that doesn't mean she's going to quit her day job. NBC staple "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" was just picked up for season 14.

Appearing on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" earlier this month, Hargitay talked about the revamped show, saying, "This year there were a lot of changes — we have Danny Pino and Kelli Giddish and all these fantastic new additions. You never know if it's going to get picked up but I'm just glad it did because I was coming back no matter what."
